Here at Ellerslie Events we manage event centre operations at both Ellerslie and Pukekohe Park and, under our parent brand Auckland Thoroughbred Racing, manage racing at both racecourses too.

We’re looking for an experienced assistant beverage manager to join us.

About the role

This role is a full-time position reporting to the beverage manage and the operations manager.

As the assistant beverage banager you’ll support the beverage manager in overseeing bar operations at both Ellerslie and Pukekohe Park.

This hands-on role ensures premium beverage service, manages stock controls, and maintains compliance with licensing and health & safety requirements.

Key responsibilities

  • Oversee bar operations during events and racedays
  • Set up, operate, and pack down mobile bars and outlets
  • Maintain high standards of product presentation and service
  • Monitor beverage stock levels, manage issuing, replenishment, and transfers
  • Assist with stock-takes, ordering, and reporting
  • Deliver excellent guest service, supporting VIP and corporate standards
  • Uphold liquor licensing obligations and health & safety compliance
  • Report incidents, hazards, or maintenance issues

Skills & Attributes

  • Strong beverage knowledge: cocktails, wine, beer
  • Hands-on and physically capable – moving stock, fridges, and bars during set-up/pack-down
  • Excellent communication, organisation, and problem-solving skills
  • Calm, professional, and guest-focused under pressure
  • Attention to detail and operational standards
  • POS system knowledge (Micros preferred)
  • Flexible and adaptable


Qualifications & Requirements

  • Preferred: Duty Manager Certificate (or LCQ)
  • 3+ years experience in bar/hospitality, ideally in events or large-scale venues
  • Advantageous: Cocktail / barista experience
  • Advantageous: Current First Aid Certificate
  • Advantageous :Forklift driving experience / license
  • Flexibility to work evenings, weekends, public holidays, and racedays (Boxing Day & New Year’s Day essential)
